Dr. Pai walks the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week 2014

Dr. Pai walks the ramp for Mandira Bedi at Lakme Fashion Week 2014

Mandira Bedi, who presented her first-ever collection of saris on Day 2 of the Lakme Fashion where nine extraordinary women showcased her designs, speaks candidly with Divya Nair about her inspiration for choosing to design saris, how she manages to stay so fit while sharing two cents of advice on how to drape the nine-yard.
From noodle straps to backless blouses, Mandira Bedi has led the way for the modern day women through her sartorial choice of saris.
So when she announced her first ever collection at the Lakme Fashion Week, the excitement was phenomenal.
Unlike most other actor turned designers who have celebrity showstoppers, Bedi chose Dr. Jamuna Pai, founder chairperson, Blush cosmetic clinic, matrimonial lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh, Schauna Chauhan, CEO, Parle Agro, nutritionist Pooja Makhija, celebrity blogger MissMalini, celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, gynaecologist Dr Kiran Coelho and jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas to present her collection.
For Bedi, who says she derived her inspiration for saris from her mom, there was no two thoughts about who her showstopper was going to be.
Geeta Bedi -- Mandira Bedi’s mother -- who walked the ramp for the debutante designer was overwhelmed and was short of words to describe her daughter’s hard work.
“I feel proud of her and I’m happy to be her mother. I’m also happy that she chose me to launch her collection,” Mandira’s mother said after the event while addressing media and well-wishers.
In a candid conversation with Divya Nair after the show, Mandira Bedi talks about her inspiration for choosing to design saris, how she manages to stay so fit while sharing two cents of advice on how to drape the nine-yard…
Tell us a bit about your collection
My first collection is about celebrating real women of today. From the colours, to the designs and the people who walked the show, everything has been carefully picked by me. Since it’s a summer collection, I chose to experiment with colours like blue, orange, yellow, violet and fuchsia and fluid fabrics like georgette and chiffon.
Who is your inspiration for fashion?
Even when I was a kid, I’ve always admired my mom for her saris. I just love the way she carries it off. It’s she who made me realise that the sari is one of the few outfits where you can never go wrong. You can wear it to office, a corporate event, a birthday party or even a wedding. It’s a versatile outfit.
For fashion, I don’t have any personal inspiration or favourites. I just pick what colours I like and personalise it to suit the occasion.
As long as the cut, length, fit and colour of the outfit suits you, it doesn’t matter whether you are wearing a sari, tshirt or a kurta.

Blush introduces new anti-ageing miracle treatment - PRP Autologous Skin Rejuvenation

Blush Clinics and Dr. Jamuna Pai always known to be pioneers in the skincare field have introduced the PRP Autologous Skin Rejuvenation, a treatment that restores natural beauty, naturally.

What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, which is a concentration of platelets derived from your own blood (Autologous) to trigger a healing process. Platelets contain packets of growth hormones and cytokines that tell the tissues to increase rebuilding of tissues to enhance healing. When PRP is injected into the damaged area, it stimulates a mild inflammatory response, which triggers the healing cascade. This leads to restored blood flow, new cell growth, and tissue regeneration. Because the blood is your own, there is no risk of rejection, infection as it is totally bio-compatible and bio-degradable.

How is the procedure conducted?
A sample of blood will be taken from a vein in your arm under sterile conditions. The blood will be placed in a centrifuge, which is a device that spins the blood. This helps to separate the blood cells from plasma, and allows concentration of the platelets. This process increases the concentration of platelets, which have the healing growth factors. The preparation takes about 15 minutes. The finished PRP product is then available for injection into the skin where skin rejuvenation and regeneration is required.

What indications can it treat?
PRP Skin rejuvenation treatment utilizes the potential of your own body to improve the overall texture and tone of your skin, naturally. It reduces wrinkles and blemishes such as acne scars and may be used as part of your health and beauty regimes to improve the overall condition of the skin, improving tone and texture. It is a natural approach to improving the condition of your skin, and you are using your own unique tissue growth factors and healing properties to revitalise the skin by improving blood supply and stimulating collagen formation, the results of which improves and increases over time with evidence suggesting that the results of PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy lasts longer than chemical treatments.

Is the treatment safe?
The treatment is conducted by registered medical practitioners under strict hygienic conditions. Also the accessories (vaccutainers containing growth factors in which the withdrawn blood is placed for centrifugation) are imported from Switzerland to ensure safety and superior quality.

How painful is the procedure?
If you have undergone a blood test you will know the pain is negligible. Also the site of treatment where healing and rejuvenation is required is treated with a numbing gel so all that you feel are just tiny pin pricks.

PRP Skin Rejuvenation is specifically designed for you, by you!

Skincare Gyaan for Beauty Queens

Dr. Jamuna Pai - Pioneer of Cosmetology in India
Skincare expert to Miss Diva India 2013

Dr. Jamuna Pai, a renowned name in cosmetology in India and an eminent aesthetic physician, was the skincare expert for the Miss Diva 2013 pageant. “I firmly believe that fitness and beauty are inter-connected. Fitness of the body and of the mind both make a person look and feel beautiful inside and this is reflected on the outside too,” says the beauty expert, under whose guidance the 14 finalists of the pageant attained healthy, glowing skin.

Dr. Pai, who has an eye for detail and is a perfectionist by nature, ensured that she spent enough time with each contestant to understand their problems, requirements and what their current skincare routine was. After deliberating on all factors, she tailor-made skincare routines for each girl. “I understand the rigmarole of hectic schedules, stress, constant training under the experts and shoots that all our girls have to undergo in the last few days before one of them gets the crown. Hence, I try to keep the regime simple and easy to adhere to,” she says.

Easy susceptibility to zits and pimples and a skin that is oily one day and dry as a bone the next, were some of the most common problems she addressed. Besides these, problem areas such as dark circles were some of the other issues that needed to be dealt with. Under her supervision, her team of doctors and dermal therapists treated the girls.

Dr. Pai is among the most sought after cosmetic physicians in the country with four clinics in Mumbai and Pune. She is a columnist for leading national and international publications and has been grooming girls for the Miss India beauty pageant for 17 years. Her foresight and vision have led her to be a part of the advisory board of various companies. Recently, a daily newspaper listed her among one of the 50 most influential people who impact Mumbai.

She has made a difference through her field of expertise to thousands of women while at the same time inspiring many others to enter this field, which has contributed towards their economic growth, social development and empowerment. Educating and empowering people, especially women, is of utmost importance to her. Recently, she was bestowed with the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for her contribution to the field of skincare. Selected by an elite panel of politicians and social workers, the recipient of this award is chosen on the basis of their outstanding services, achievements and contributions to their particular profession. Talking about her treatment plan for the contestants Dr. Pai says, “I, along with my team of doctors, always work towards giving the contestants a healthy glowing skin. Some of the tips I give the girls include

  •     Apply a mud-pack once a week to absorb excess sebum
  •     A clear gut avoids constipation and acidity
  •     Eat green vegetables and fruits regularly
  •     Drink plenty of water
  •     Take supplements of Vitamin A, zinc and antioxidants
  •     Do not squeeze or ‘pluck’ a pimple
  •     Feel free to use makeup as long as you cleanse your skin well before retiring for the day."
At the end of their session, Blush Clinics gifted a range of its own homecare products to each girl.
